Lawyer from Shawneetown, Gallatin County, Illinois, author of Digest of Illinois Reports, 1856 and reporter for the Illinois Supreme Court, 1863-1894. Came to Shawneetown in 1851 and rapidly developed a practice, having cases before the supreme court at Mt. Vernon, Ill. in 1852 and 1853. His agent for selling his book was Charles Tucker who traveled around the state, meeting with lawyers. The state of Illinois bought 500 copies.
